CEO Philip Borden
Dr. Borden's brings thirty-five years of commercial and non-profit leadership, consulting, and university teaching to Active Capital. He concurrently advises businesses, non-profits, universities, professional associations, and governments on strategic and tactical planning, intellectual property, and policy issues.

Trained in history, mathematics, political theory, and business management in the United States and at Oxford , Dr. Borden's career began with teaching and research at UCLA and USC. He left academic life to found high technology companies in circuit design, laser applications, manufacturing integration, and the research and implementation of artificial intelligence software. His companies have been cited for their quality, excellence, and innovation in IBM's Baldridge and other national awards, and in Business Week , on NBC and CBS, and in other national media. Dr. Borden entered the non-profit world in 1993 as the head of an Asian American Economic Development Enterprises. He developed entrepreneurial training for 1,000 clients/year, helped originate two minority entrepreneurship journals, and founded a coalition of 32 Asian American banks to support business growth following the civil unrest in Los Angeles . Later, as CEO of Woman's Enterprise Development Corporation (WEDC), he modernized and extended their entrepreneurial training curricula, doubled program deliveries, and increased and diversified their funding resources. When he left, WEDC-trained companies routinely contributed $11 million/year to the tax base. Dr. Borden has helped structure and teach entrepreneurial training in Russia ; presented over 75 papers on management and technology in journals and to professional and civic associations in the United States , China , and Japan . He has advised political officials on women's and small business funding and policy issues, and sits on the boards of several technology and non-profit companies, plus financial and civic committees.
